About

Nancy was born in Houston Texas, and grew up as an “Air Force brat” living in Nebraska, California, Washington D.C. and Alabama before moving back to the Bay Area to go to Cal Berkeley. She has been a professional musician for 30 years playing and singing rhythm and blues, jazz, rock and country and touring and recording with many Bay Area bands. She was the lead guitarist with the Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra, (13 Souls Out Of Control/Hubbub Records) a premiere R&B band out of San Francisco. Her unique talent as a female lead guitarist has seen her on the stage rocking with such Bay Area greats as the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir, Chris Isaak, and Big Brother and the Holding Company, and opening for such acts as Huey Lewis, Joe Cocker and Elvin Bishop to name a few.

She has recorded two solo albums. The self-titled album, Nancy Wenstrom, consists of entirely original compositions, and reflects numerous trips to Nashville to study the art of song writing. Her energetic live blues album, Live at The Saloon, (recorded in San Francisco with her blues trio), is a rocking mix of blues standards that shows her command of the instrument as an electric blues guitarist and her abilitiy as a strong vocal stylist.

Nancy’s most recent project is a rocking 6- piece band, Blues Kitchen, that features Jan Martinelli, her long time bassist and friend, in the rhythm section, and Brad Catania, trumpet extroidinaire, arranging the horns. Blues Kitchen is a platform for her new original compositions as well as some of her favorite cover tunes from Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, B.B.King and other great blues/rock artists that have inspired her over the years.
